![]() The new version seems to have addressed and fixed the issues I experienced, though I have not tried it myself. I have the original version (T-50CM) and I quite like it. If you want an extended center stick (which I highly recommend) and don't want to build something yourself, then the Virpil Mongoose T-50CM2 base is your best (and likely only) option. Regardless, an even more important decision is which base you want to get. I also really like the 5-way hat (CMS) switch on the side over the hornet's 5-way hat (weapon select). I have both grips and after flying for a while with the hornet grip when it came out, I've switched back to my old warthog grip because it's more versatile. However, if you fly a variety of aircraft, the viper/warthog grip really is the way to go. And if you are exclusively flying the hornet, then yeah, it's pretty good. The trigger, for instance, feels much closer to what it would on the real thing, and the sensor select has a nicer tactile feel than the 4-way hats on the warthog grip. ![]() The hornet grip does have a some advantages. Going the other way - mimicking the A-10C and F-16 HOTAS functionality on the hornet grip - is much harder and can make things confusing. You can pretty well mimic all of the behavior of the hornet grip on the viper/warthog grip (you just have to get a bit creative with the sensor-select push). This is especially true if you you fly other aircraft (especially the A-10C and F-16). Even if you are going center stick, the A-10C/F-16 grip is still worth considering because it's a bit more versatile than the hornet grip. ![]() You should only consider the F/A-18 grip if you will be using a center-stick setup. They "feel" a bit closer to the real thing than anything Virpil or VKB offers, though it should be noted that the metal construction is pot-metal (zamak), including the connector at the base of the grip (which can break).Īs for which grip to get, it depends on what your setup is and what you're hoping to fly.
